The New Battery Performs
Category UX280P UX280
I spent the last week at a conference where I operated solely by the will of my UX's batteries. As noted, I ponied up the $300 for the extended battery and wondered if I would get the advertised 2x the battery life as the standard battery..I am happy to announce that I most certainly did.
I have my power settings configured for the installed 'VIAO Maximum Batteries' option that configures the UX, while on battery, to cut the LCD to half its brightness (level 5), decreases the color depth to 16 bit, and turns off the monitor after 10 minutes of unuse. Additionally, the system is set for adaptive CPU usage and has the CPU fan controlled for another half setting (level 5 again.) I also have the power off setting to force the UX into 'Hibernate' rather then shutting down.
All of these settings allowed me to easily get 6 hours of usage (including watching DVD images during the flight down and back) out of the extended battery and with the addition of the standard battery, I could work for about eight and a half hours daily.
