A sad day for sure

In the Broyles household we watch a lot of television, but only the good kind. Most often we are tuned into Disney Channel, or Discovery, Animal Planet, or HGTV (E loves to watch cooking shows). So it was very sad for us to learn of Steve "Crocodile Hunter" Irwin's passing.
Rarely does one get to see true passion in a public individual...passion should have been Irwin's middle name. His obvious love for all things nature, his family, and his quest for learning permeated his life. We could all do well to have the same level of passion for what we hold important.
Our family 'grew up' with his family. I remember hearing Steve comparing a pregnant ape and his pregnant wife, but doing it in a loving and thoughtful way, not a demeaning or negative one. I remember laughing at their choice of a name for their daughter, Bindi Sue, who's first name was shared with a crocodile. And I remember my disbelief in the negativity he received when he introduced his infant son Bob to the world of crocodiles...creatures who Bob would undoubtedly come in close contact with his entire life and who Bob needed to immediately learn to respect.
When I die, hopefully a long time from now, I hope I that I do doing something that I love doing, just like the Crocodile Hunter did.
Rest in peace Steve.
