UX280P 80GB HDD Upgrade Update
Category UX280P
It has been a little under six months since I upgraded my UX280P to an 80GB HDD, and I think it might be valuable to share my experiences so far.
First, the drive is performing like a champ! No complaints whatsoever, I have yet to experience a blue screen of death (BSOD) on this machine. IT does get a little hot, but no hotter then I would expect from the device anyway.
Having the space is a godsend! I regularly copy two or three DVDs to the HDD so that I can watch them while traveling without needing a DVD player along as well. Three DVDs = ~25GB. I also have ~11GB of music, and have 15-20 Audible.com books (another 1.25GB.)
In addition to the entertainment, I also have a boatload of software development tools. VS.Net, VS6, MyEclipse, Lotus Domino Designer, various HTML/XML utilities, Adobe Captivate2, Adobe Flex2, Crystal Reports Dev XI, MindManager 6 Pro, Savvion Process Modeler, Oracle 9i Client, Wink, etc. I also carry MS Office 2007 Pro, MS OneNote 2007, Lotus Notes 7.0.2 client, and OpenOffice. I really couldn't live and work without the extra space.
I have noticed that when listening to audio I use the UX's HOLD switch setting and REALLY extend my battery life and decrease the operating temp considerably.
When driving, my door handle makes for a perfect mounting point for the UX, I listen to my Audible books during my commutes...I'll have to take a picture so you can see what I am talking about.
I wish I could find an external drive enclosure that would accept the old 40GB drive's ZIF connector...but I don't think that they exist yet.
I also have a Western Digital 500GB external drive that stays in my office. I use it as a repository for the DVD copies I am not currently viewing and as a backup to disk device.
On a side note, about a month ago I got turned on to JKDefrag...what a cool tool and its free. I highly suggest it.
Oh, take a look at my SmartWi window...

If possible, could you ping me back a note to my email with some dialog?
